VOLKSWAGEN SETTLEMENT

BACKGROUND

On January 4, 2016, the United States of America filed a complaint against Volkswagen (VW) alleging violations of the Clean Air Act. The complaint centered around approximately 580,000 vehicles manufactured by VW and affiliations that produced oxides of nitrogen (NOx) that were as much as 40 times the allowable federal standard. In two agreements settled in June and December of 2016, VW is required to provide significant funds to certain states with impacted vehicles and resulting air emissions to mitigate the damages. 

 

The NH Department of Environmental Services is the leading agency for these funds, you can find up to date information on their website below. 

NH'S FUNDING ALLOCATION

New Hampshire's share of the environmental mitigation trust is approximately $30.9 million.

ELIGIBLE SPENDING

Refer to the eligible mitigations actions (Appendix D2) here. NH has pledged 15% of the funds to support electric vehicle support equipment.
